As we get ready to spend more time indoors as the air turns chilly outside, this is a great time to start thinking about how we want to decorate for the winter months. A few updates here and there are a nice way to keep it “fresh” while we wait for days to get longer again. One of the key decorating trends this season is the use of rustic wood.
In home furnishing stores these past two months, I’ve noticed the prevalence of plain, unfinished wood surfaces. This doesn’t mean the decorative pieces are anything but ordinary – rather they are more unique with their individual imperfections! Seating pieces, tables, serving ware and paneling all proudly show off their bark, burls and scorch marks.
Stacked around a fireplace wood has a homey, comfortable look but it also adds a natural element to a room. Combine natural wood with an entire range of neutrals.
A modern living room gets a touch of natural simplicity with end-cut log stools.
Scars and wood grain give unique character to the contemporary style of a dining room table.
Rough hewn log “medallions” create an art-installion look on a black wall.
Colorfully yours,
Erika
What a surprise! Wood can be used in many such designs. Feeling rustic, in harmony with nature, is very unique and very beautiful.
